I'm getting maximum use out of the bunch of daffodils I bought last week. They are so cheerful and bright!

Carrot Cake

Carrot and cake. Who would have thought that combining the two would result in something so tasty! Home made carrot cake muffins with topping are my absolute favourite. Happy Friday everyone!

Day 70

Feels like spring

Today has been an absolutely beautiful day. The sun was shining and streaming in through the window onto my desk. The skies were clear and blue, the temperature reached 9 degrees celcius and the evenings are drawing out; it was daylight until well after 6.30pm. It feels like spring is on the way! Yay!

Yesterday and todays 365:2010 photos are of spring flowers. I can't wait for the daffodils to start flowering!

Burning Heather

Since moving to North Yorkshire the burning of heather on the moors has been something I have wanted to see. I was really excited when I noticed the smoke rising from that area on my drive home from York, so I headed up there with my camera. This fire was right next to the road...

Day 67 - 8th March '10


In order to provide a perfect habitat for grouse, the gamekeepers carry out rotational burning. Every year around this time (when there are no birds nesting and when the ground is damp) they set alight small areas of older heather to encourage it to grow new shoots the following year. It creates a mosaic of heather growing at varying heights. The taller and older heather gives the grouse a place to nest, and the shorter younger heather provides them with food.





The smoke was making a beautiful cloud pattern and a pretty colour cast in the sky...

Dear Blog

Dear Blog,

Just a quick note to apologise for neglecting you over the last couple of weeks, and to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you! I've been busy, but from now on I will devote more time to filling your pages with my photographs and stories.
