All I need is a moment

29 October 2009

Photography is all about the moment. Freezing a moment in time to be looked at for years to come. I first came across this idea on Narrelle's blog (http://www.njoythemoment.com.au), and wanted to take part myself. The idea is that photographers across the world take a photo at exactly the same time (in each of their time zones), and we can see what that moment looked like through another persons eyes. I have wanted to take part for a few weeks but for one reason or another I kept on missing the time.

This week I finally did it!

The theme is an "Ant's Eye View" on Wednesday 28th October 2009 at 4.22 pm, and here is my photo:

Pickering War Weekend

24 October 2009

Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October 2009 became Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October 1943. Last weekend was the 17th annual war weekend in Pickering and on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Pickering high street was closed to traffic, and there were people dressed in 1940's costumes as land girls, nurses, soldiers and civilians. Local school children were issued with their own gas masks and were evacuated on the steam trains. The village of Levisham on the NYMR was occupied by the Germans and became known as Le Visham. There was even an unexploded bomb!

Some children being evacuated.

I loved how this little boy was sat on the sandbags having his lunch next to the "Dig for Victory" sign.

The ladies outfits were so colourful and dressy. The gentleman on the right was serenading passers by.

I doubt that Pickering has changed much since the war.

Baby K

19 October 2009

Baby K was 10 days old when I took these photographs. He has the most beautiful eyes, and is such an alert little newborn. Here's a little sneak peak of him:
